Image offers Caves as free download

IMAX documentary second to be available for Earth Day

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 4/22/2009

APRIL 22 | Image Entertainment is celebrating today’s Earth Day by offering the IMAX documentary Journey Into Amazing Caves as a free stream/download on the iTunes Store, Amazon Video On Demand and Blockbuster On Demand, among other services.

This is the second time Image is rolling out a free digital movie in honor of Earth Day. Last year, Image made available at no charge the Meryl Streep-narrated IMAX documentary The Living Sea.

Journey Into Amazing Caves will be available for free at iTunes through April 26. Mobile service mSpot/Sprint also is participating in Image’s Earth Day campaign.

As well as viewing the film, consumers will be able to see previews of other docs, such as Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk 3D and Hurricane on the Bayou.

Journey Into Amazing Caves “reminds us that the planet is more than a solid sphere, where all life is stuck onto an impregnable surface,” director Steve Judson said. “The planet is a magnificently three-dimensional system, and although we rarely glimpse this extra dimension, knowing it's there changes our thinking and enriches our world view. Journey Into Amazing Caves gives us one of those rare glimpses.”

Mitch Mallon, VP of digital sales of Image division Egami Media, added, “This is a great opportunity for Image to share the environmental benefits that digital distribution has to offer.”
