Ryko Distribution merges with ADA

Both are divisions of Warner Music Group

By Cindy Spielvogel -- Video Business, 4/24/2009

APRIL 24 | Ryko Distribution, which includes the Ryko Filmworks DVD division as well as independent music titles, is being merged into Alternative Distribution Alliance, which also specializes in independent music. Both Ryko and ADA are divisions of Warner Music Group.

Labels currently distributed by Ryko are expected to make the switch to ADA. It was unclear what would happen to Ryko’s staff. Officials couldn’t be reached for comment.

Ryko’s DVD labels include Rhino Video, which also is owned by WMG. Other labels distributed by Ryko include Blue Underground, Disinformation, DVD International, Liberation Entertainment, PopCinema, S’more Entertainment, Synapse Films, Troma Entertainment and others.

WMG acquired Ryko in 2006.

WMG also distributes music and DVD titles through its WEA major label distribution division.
