On DVD, A Bug’s Life looked amazing, transferred directly from digital production to digital disc. In its new Blu-ray version, the movie looks even more stunning, with saturated colors that make the scenery come alive. Most of the special features have been pulled off the various DVD releases of this movie, but Disney has added some Blu-ray exclusives. The most fun is the “Filmmakers’ Round Table,” in which directors John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton and producers Darla Anderson and Kevin Reher sit around and reminisce about the making of the movie and other things—like the time Stanton’s head appeared for two hours on the Today show. Voice star Dave Foley is back on board to narrate “The First Draft” version of the movie, in which storyboards of the original idea for A Bug’s Life have been animated.
Shelf Talk: With $163 million in box-office receipts, A Bug’s Life, if you can believe it, is one of the smallest-grossing Pixar movies, but that doesn’t take away from its popularity. The film has been released in multiple DVD versions, but this Blu-ray debut, including digital copy, could lead some families to upgrade.
