> Different sort of high school musical about gay teens.
Though the broad outlines of its plot seem racy, this gay teen Shakespearean musical fantasy is actually an innocent, PG-13-ish movie. Tanner Cohen stars as a gay high school student in a school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream who develops a love potion that turns every narrow-minded person he encounters gay. The film is endearingly corny, and though its musical numbers aren’t memorable, director/co-scripter Tom Gustafson does his best to present the subject of teen confusion and passion in a family-friendly fashion.
Shelf Talk: The film’s unusually chaste treatment of its material makes it acceptable viewing for older teens looking for a different sort of high school musical. But Were the World Mine will likely be a hit among adults who enjoy a little camp with stories of young love (yes, even the coach sings here).
