> Redemption film has good turns from its female players.
Boozy, womanizing Bob Funk (Michael Leydon Campbell) decides to straighten up after his mother (Grace Zabriskie) fires him from the family business and he gets the hots for the new associate being groomed as his replacement (Rachael Leigh Cook). This “cubicle culture” comedy is thinly scripted and flat; moreover, its boorish protagonist doesn’t arouse empathy, even when he’s trying to reform. The cast’s distaff members provide most of the entertainment.
Shelf Talk: Absent an appealing or marketable leading man, Bob Funk will depend on the strength of its better-known female cast members: Cook, Zabriskie and Gone Baby Gone’s Amy Ryan, who has a nice cameo as Bob’s shrink. Strong advertising and marketing support is indicated.
