JULY 9 | DIGITAL: Sony Bravia HDTVs will be the next hardware devices to feature Netflix streaming.
Starting this fall, Netflix subscribers who own Bravia TVs with built-in Web capabilities, or Bravia sets with Sony’s Internet video link accessory, will have access to more than 12,000 streaming movies and TV episodes.
At the same time, these Bravia models also will offer new Web programming from Demand Media and On Networks. Demand Media houses dozens of Web sites, including Lance Armstrong-founded Livestrong.com and the how-to resource eHow.com. On Networks creates such original Web series as Golf Tips, Play Value and Beautiful Places.
More than 25 providers of broadband-delivered programming are in Sony’s Bravia TV stable, additionally including Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Sports Illustrated, Sony Pictures, Crackle.com and Style.com.
“Sony was first to bring Internet video to TV, and we continue to deliver one of the largest and most diverse catalogs of content to customers through Bravia Internet Video,” said Jeff Goldstein, VP of Sony Electronics’ television business. “Adding Netflix gives many of our customers access to a vast library of streaming content through their existing Netflix accounts.”
Netflix’s service is now available through a slew of hardware devices, including the Xbox 360 videogame console and Blu-ray Disc players from such brands as Samsung and LG Electronics.
