JULY 29 | PHYSICAL: Warner Home Video’s $107.5 million-grossing box-office hit Watchmen enjoyed a strong home video opening, debuting at No. 1 in DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals and sales this week, according to Rentrak.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s animated adventure Coraline, based on Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel, landed at No. 2 in DVD and Blu-ray sales and No. 3 in DVD rentals.
Meanwhile, Summit Home Entertainment’s Knowing managed to stay in the Top 3 on the DVD and Blu-ray rentals and Blu-ray sales charts.
Summit marketed its $80 million-grossing Nicolas Cage film with its more modest sci-fi thriller Push in a joint rebate program and hybrid TV spot.
Paramount Home Entertainment’s limited-release Echelon Conspiracy entered the Top 20 DVD rentals at No. 13, the only other new title besides Watchmen and Coraline to do so. In DVD sales, new TV titles Psych: Season 3 (No. 9), Monk: Season 7 (No. 12) and Robot Chicken Star Wars 2 (No. 13) all gained some retail attention.
