50 Cent album packaged with DVD premiere

PHYSICAL: Rapper directs, stars in Before I Self Destruct

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 10/12/2009

OCT. 12 | PHYSICAL: Rapper 50 Cent will include a free DVD premiere film with his upcoming CD release Before I Self Destruct on Nov. 23.

The straight-to-DVD film, also titled Before I Self Destruct, stars the rapper as an aspiring basketball player who vows revenge after his mother is murdered. 50 Cent, a.k.a. Curtis Jackson, also wrote and directed the feature.

And for a limited time, the DVD/CD combo will include the documentary Two Turntables and a Microphone: The Life and Death of Jam Master Jay. The doc chronicles 50 Cent’s late mentor Jam Master Jay, who was part of hip-hop group Run-DMC. 50 Cent executive produced and is featured in the project.

50 Cent wanted to pack in as much content into his release as possible to respect today’s difficult economic climate, according to an announcement made Monday by distributor Interscope Records.

People can check out a trailer for the Before I Self Destruct set at www.imeem.com/50cent.

Separately, Image Entertainment will widely distribute the Jam Master Jay doc as an individual DVD on Dec. 1. Pre-orders are due for the title, priced at $14.98, on Nov. 3.
