Borshell, Reimer launch film company

PHYSICAL: Inception Media Group will produce, distribute titles to various platforms

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 10/28/2009

OCT. 28 | PHYSICAL: Home entertainment veterans David Borshell and Andy Reimer have launched the new film production/distribution company Inception Media Group LLC.

Based in Los Angeles, Inception plans to acquire, produce and release films across a range of platforms, including theatrical, home video, digital and TV. Additionally, Inception will service third parties with DVD supply chain operations, such as manufacturing, warehousing, order management and order fulfillment.

One main goal of the company is to help fill the void of independent production/distribution in light of significant indie consolidation in recent years.

Inception has not yet specified its first projects in development and/or those set for release.

The combined work experience of Borshell and Reimer should give Inception a good start in its business. Borshell was most recently president of indie DVD/Blu-ray Disc supplier Image Entertainment, where he had worked for 24 years. During his time at Image, Borshell led the company’s rollout of international, digital, feature film and TV businesses.

With more than 25 years in entertainment, Reimer was previously senior VP of acquisition and production at HBO Entertainment and served as president of former Blockbuster subsidiary DEJ Productions. Reimer also is credited as an executive producer on a number of films, including Oscar-winner Crash.

“Our industry has seen its share of consolidation and change during the past couple of years, which has led to a reduction of viable companies competing for quality programming,” said Borshell. “Andy and I have a tremendous amount of acquisition and distribution experience, and, by launching a new company together, we can provide content creators and owners a meaningful and much needed alternative.”

Reimer added, “Our collective relationships with content providers, exhibitors, retailers, distributors and technology companies are far-reaching. When combined with our respective backgrounds, we believe that Inception will be able to bring quality films and other event programming to market effectively and efficiently. We look forward to working with our partners and helping them navigate the cultural and technological changes facing our industry.”

Lisa Yedlin has been hired as senior VP of sales at Inception. She has held sales positions at Image and Lionsgate, among other companies.
