NOV. 16 | PHYSICAL: Regional mass merchant Meijer will be offering an $89 Sylvania Blu-ray Disc player on Black Friday, among other home video deals.
Meijer will price a Sylvania Blu-ray Disc player at $89 for Black Friday.
The $89 Sylvania player is about $10 below what is believed to be the lowest tagged Blu-ray player of the season so far, Best Buy’s $99 Insignia model. At this point, the most common Black Friday-advertised Blu-ray player price is $149, encompassing deals on Sony and Samsung players at Walmart, Sears and other retailers. The higher priced players are differentiated by their ability to deliver Web capabilities, a feature absent with the sub-$100 models.
Additionally, Meijer will be rolling out a large selection of $9 Blu-ray movies, featuring mostly catalog titles such as Live Free or Die Hard, Vantage Point, Hoosiers and Speed. At this point, Best Buy is backing the cheapest Blu-ray titles for Black Friday, at $7.99.
Meijer also will sell such $3 standard-definition DVDs as Casino Royale, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Dodgeball.
In an impressive bundle deal, Meijer shoppers can buy a $299 PlayStation 3 and receive two free Blu-ray movies—Step Brothers and Black Hawk Down—plus videogames Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction.
