Jolene Blalock Captains her own Starship, Pt. II
July 26, 2008

Here’s the second part of Ed Grant’s interview with Jolene Blalock, who stars in the upcoming DVD Premiere feature Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (Sony, street: Aug. 5).

Blalock reflects happily on her best-known role, T’Pol on Enterprise(which ran from 2001 to 2005). “I was blessed to have the job. I was filling some pretty large shoes. Leonard Nimoy played the role of a Vulcan better than anybody could, and that was frightening. I’m very grateful that my performance was appreciated by the fans pretty much across the board, from the feedback that I’ve gotten from them.”

Despite her fond feelings for the role, she received much attention for negative comments she made about the show’s third and fourth seasons, and in particular its final episode (which she deemed “appalling”). “You know, the negative comments I made at the time, I just felt that somebody had to say it, someone had to speak up about what was going on. [Exec producer Rick] Berman was using the old formula that worked for TNG. But things change, taste changes, times change. If you don’t bend you break, and that’s sort of what happened.”

Given the preceding, it’s surprising to hear her express a wish to return to the deck of that most famous of starships. “I miss the show, I miss the cast and crew, even though many of us are still in contact. I’m hoping they bring Enterpriseback,” she says wistfully.

As for her future plans, the sultry space traveler notes she’d be “honored” to continue on in the Troopers franchise, and is currently in negotiations to appear in yet another fantasy role, as a “nemesis” on the CW show Smallville.Ed Grant
