The Return of The House of Fawn Liebowitz
October 10, 2008

There’s been no dearth of DVD special editions of the seminal 1978 comedy National Lampoon’s Animal House. Hell, from the very beginning, the digital life of the Universal title has revolved around making the film seem more “collectable.” It began with the 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition in 1998 and it was followed nearly a decade later with the Double Secret Probation Edition (2006). Which brings us up to the latest

version: 2008’s National Lampoon’s Animal House 30th Anniversary Gift Set (2008), which will be available on Oct. 28.

This latest edition comes packaged in a frat house-shaped box (made of some pretty sturdy cardboard) that features a gorgeous wrap-around image of the original one-sheet theatrical art. The disc is supplemented with the all-new feature-length documentary Animal House: The Inside Story, which includes talking head interview with most of the principals in-front-of and behind-the-camera, including director John Landis, co-producer Ivan Reitman and no less than ten of the featured ensemble players. Man, these people never seem to tire talking about this flick—it really must have been as much fun to make as they say it is.  Also included in the disc are a colorful “Faber College Yearbook” booklet and a licensed “Scene It” game that includes movie clips and trivia questions

Here’s a segment from the doc that finds Landis and company in a fine mood as they chat about their favorite film:
