All The Nudes That Are Fit To Print
December 21, 2007

Call it a return to form—er, nubile form! We’re referring to the latest crop of Eighties-inspired slasher-and-mutant flicks—the ones that have been taking the DVD shelf by storm over the past year or so—and their unabashed inclusion of good, old-fashioned, Friday the 13th-styled nudity!

Now, we didn’t think all this gratuitous nudity was an accident, not at all. But until we spoke to a couple of directors responsible for a pair of 2007 slash fests that didn’t skimp on the nudity, we had no idea it was part of these genre filmmakers’ playbooks.

“I think these kinds of movies are really needed again. A lot of people have forgotten why they got into this in the first place—everything today is remakes and torture and PG-13 horror where there’s no nudity and no gore. It

sucks,” we were told by Adam Green, director of this year’s Hatchet (Anchor Bay). I think Hatchet is the kind of movie that brings it back again to when it was really fun.”

“We were so blessed to get [Hatchet co-stars] Mercedes McNab and Joleigh Fioreavanti, because they’re both outstanding and they got the fact that the nudity was funny and that it was part of the joke,” he added.

“An Eighties-style splatter movie wouldn’t be complete without some mammaries,” said Wrong Turn 2 (Fox) director Joe Lynch in a recent interview with VB. “It’s part of the equation--when you’re making a horror film, you’ve got to have some nudity. Ever since Halloween, ‘sex = death’ has been part of the horror equation.”

“Thankfully, we had [Wrong Turn 2 actress] Crystal Lowe—she never complained and was a total pro,” he continued. “There’s a little bit of sex, a little bit of nudity and a little bit of mutant sex, in addition to all the gore,” he said.

Yeah, get back to it. Movies like Berserker, The Burning and the original Carrie amongst others made horror movies fun. Now-a-days they are nothing more then projects for out of work TV actors and actresses to do and of course no one wants to take their clothes off.
