Ardent Asia Argento
June 3, 2008

“For me, cinema is life,” declares the always-game Asia Argento in the supplemental section of her latest film, the slick and sexy thriller Boarding Gate (from Magnolia Home Entertainment), directed by Olivier Assayas. Incidentally, the Italian actress makes that statement in French (with English subtitles), while in another interview, she speaks English. You gotta love her….

We’re happy to report that in Asia’s latest cinematic “life” to be issued on DVD, she stars as a former prostitute turned business woman who travels to China to open up a nightclub—but not before murdering a former lover

while clad in black lingerie and stilettos. Said deceased lover is portrayed by Michael Madsen and that murderous love scene with Asia—which begins with flirting, whiskey and handcuffs and ends with a gunshot to the head--is the film’s highlight.

“We added violence that was necessary--that seemed necessary,” Asia said about extended love-turned-murder sequence. “At times, I suffered a bit because of the relationship with Michael in the movie. It was hard. And it’s not true that it’s only a movie. Sometimes we experience hard things and we go home with emotions that we had evoked during a scene.”

For Madsen’s part, he felt the scene was successful, but was undeniably thrown by his co-starlet’s enthusiasm when it came to retakes:

“She wanted to go again--and again and again and again and again and again,” said Madsen. “But I think once we have it, we have it. And [director Assayas] knew what had it--and it was time to stop.

“You are a little irresponsible when you shoot a movie,” Asia countered. “…and I loved it.”
