Vicki Peterson Returns to Bangleonia
October 10, 2007
“Here we are, we’re still making music, we’re still playing, and we’re having a great time,” announced Vicki Peterson, the lead guitarist of The Bangles.
But we weren’t scheduled to talk about the return of the popular 80s group to the concert stage—what we were
chatting about was The Bangles latest concert DVD, entitled
Return To Bangleonia and
released last month by Shout! Factory. Waitaminute, it’s not their latest—it’s their first!
“We’ve wanted to put this out for years and we just didn’t get around to it,” Peterson told me in a recent phone interview. “It all kind of began to come together and we decided that we can either never put it out, or we can put it out right now. Shout! Factory has been in the picture with this project for years, but life intervened and it got put on the backburner until now.”
Bangleonia find Bangles Peterson, Susanna Hoffs, Debbie Peterson and Michael Steele reuniting for a gig at Los Angeles’ House of Blues in September 2000 where they perform such hits as “Walk Like an Egyptian,” “If She Knew What She Wants,” “Eternal Flame” and their well-known cover of “Hazy Shade of Winter.”
Though the show is a fine one and the players are in top form (and appear to be enjoying the music and each other), Peterson admits that Bangles fans are eager for a live concert DVD recorded during the group’s first incarnation in the Eighties.
“I absolutely think it would be nice to do something like that, or a retrospective,” Peterson said. “We recorded some of those shows and they really were something.”
