Topanga Meets Tron
March 18, 2007
Though she’s appeared in a handful of movies and TV shows over the past several years—including National Lampoon’s Dorm Daze and it’s sequel and the soon-to-be-released Tron-esque
adventure Gamebox 1.0 (Lionsgate, street: April 10, pictured), actress Danielle Fishel admits that its the role as the irrepressible Topanga Lawrence on TV’s long-running sitcom Boy Meets World that people most associate with her. The series ran for seven seasons, from 1993 to 2000.
“I think expected to see me as Topanga in the Dorm Daze movies, which I definitely was not,” Ms. Fishel told us in a recent interview regarding her role in the pair of relatively innocuous sex comedies set in co-ed college dorms that helped to launch the current spate of comedies carrying the National Lampoon imprimatur.
The directors of the
Dorm Daze films, brothers David Hillenbrand and Scott Hillenbrand, were also behind the lens for
Gamebox 1.0.
“I auditioned for the first Dorm Daze and got a call a couple of hours later that I got the part,” Fishel remembered. “From that point on, we just hit it off.”
Not surprisingly, Dorm Daze 3 is getting readied for the release, but this latest installment doesn’t include Danielle--which also isn’t a surprise.
“Yes, I did the second one, but not the third. Two is enough,” she laughed. “I want to experience as many possible aspects of film that I can,” she pondered. “I’ve done the college comedy thing, and I’ve done the green screen video game kind of movie with
Gamebox 1.0, and now I want to do something more dramatic.”
