Porchlight turns on Blu-ray with children's series

By Samantha Clark -- Video Business, 5/6/2008

The children's series launches on DVD and Blu-ray on Sept. 23.

MAY 6 | Porchlight Home Entertainment is moving into Blu-ray Disc with Animalia, an international children's series for which the company just acquired DVD rights.

About two 11-year-olds who are whisked from their local library to a world with talking animals, Animalia will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Sept. 23 (prebook Aug. 20), priced at $16.98 and $29.98, respectively.

“This further expands our commitment to the marketplace and the strength of our release schedule as Porchlight Home Entertainment continues its aggressive acquisition of strong, branded TV programming for release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc,” said Gary Jones, president of Porchlight Home Entertainment.

Added Bruce Johnson, Porchlight Entertainment’s president and CEO and one of the series executive producers, “This is a spectacular series! The CGI animation is amazing and the story-telling, music and characters all make this a perfect DVD to own and watch again and again.”

The first title released from the series, Animalia: Welcome to the Kingdom, will include episodes "Hello, We Must Be Going," "Goodbye, We Must Be Staying," "Forget-Me-Not" and "The Mist of Time."

The series, which airs on PBS, is based on the acclaimed children's book by Graeme Base, as alphabet book with illustrations of an animal for each letter.
