OCT. 1 | Starz Entertainment has signed a multi-year deal with indie label Screen Media Ventures to add 100 movie titles to Starz’s online subscription service, Vongo.
The deal will give Vongo subscribers 24-hour a day access to such titles as Piranha; Mr. Rice’s Secret, staring David Bowie; Men Seeking Women; and Johnny Skidmarks, starring Jack Black, as online rentals in the pay-per-view window.
Some of the new titles also will be available for download-to-own once Vongo adds the functionality, the company announced.
Since January, Vongo has said it would allow monthly subscribers a download-to-own option for some of its titles. It has yet to provide the service but still intends on it.
The new titles join Vongo’s library of 1,000 movies and 2,500 total video selections. Subscribers pay $9.99 a month for unlimited access.
“These SMV films are sure to find a new audience on Vongo,” said Nancy Silverstone, VP of program acquisitions for Starz Entertainment. “The Vongo experience encourages experimentation and sampling of movie content of all kinds thanks to its unlimited subscription model. The Screen Media Ventures titles licensed grow our already impressive subscription lineup. In addition, we are delighted to make many of these titles available on a rental basis and as part of our EST digital download option in the future.”
Screen Media’s library currently consists of more than 900 films.
