SEPT. 22 | PHYSICAL: Despite arriving on DVD several months ago, independent film Bottle Shock is getting a new marketing push with a contest via social media networking.
Starring Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman and Chris Pine, Bottle Shock is based on true events surrounding a blind tasting in Paris pitting California wines against French ones. It was the beginning of California wines getting recognition as equal to those coming out of France.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008 and was then released theatrically by the producers last year before coming to DVD and Blu-ray through 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment this past February.
The contest features a blog at BottleShockStories.com, where viewers are encouraged to buy the movie, watch it and then write about what wine they were drinking, who they were with, and where they were when they saw it.
The blogger of the winning story, which will be determined in November, will receive a three-day, two-night Bottle Shock Getaway Package with lodging in Sonoma, Calif., a helicopter tour over Napa and Sonoma, guided tours in both spots and other prizes, including a cast-signed bottle of Chardonnay.
