30 Rock lands Tuesday with five new Emmys

PHYSICAL: Universal's series hauled in award for best comedy and best actor, again

SEPT. 21 | PHYSICAL: Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s third season of 30 Rock is in prime position for its DVD bow Tuesday, hitting retail shelves just two days after it won five Emmy statuettes, the most for a comedy or drama series, on Sunday.

30 Rock hauled in awards for best comedy for the second year in a row. Star Alec Baldwin was bestowed with the trophy for best comedic actor, also a repeat from 2008.

Other DVDs likely to get an Emmy boost are upcoming releases for the first season of United States of Tara, featuring best comedic actress Toni Collette; the second season of Breaking Bad, starring best dramatic actor Bryan Cranston; and the second season of Damages, featuring best dramatic actress Glenn Close. None of these installments have been officially announced by their respective distributors, Showtime/Paramount Home Entertainment for Tara and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for Breaking Bad and Damages. However, Amazon.com is currently accepting pre-orders for Tara, Breaking Bad and Damages. Street dates haven’t yet been specified.

When the fifth season of Lost streets on Dec. 8 (prebook Oct. 13), Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will have Michael Emerson’s win for best supporting actor in a drama to promote.

The latest DVD sets for many Emmy recognized series are already out on shelves. The second season of Mad Men, which nabbed best drama for the second straight year, was released July 14 from Lionsgate. Grey Gardens, with Jessica Lange as best actress in a miniseries/movie, also bowed on July 14 from HBO. Warner Home Video’s second season of Pushing Daisies, featuring this year’s best supporting comedic actress Kristin Chenoweth, streeted on July 21.

ITunes put up a special Emmy winner section Monday, highlighting downloads of this year’s winners, including 30 Rock and Mad Men. Rival Amazon Video On Demand also had a special Emmy page, with many winning shows selling at discounted prices.
