LIBRARY DVD GUIDE: Christmas movies fit into fourth quarter schedule

AUG. 30 | As well as summer blockbusters, Christmas movies are released on DVD during the holiday season, and this year promises plenty.
A theatrical release last year, Fox is unwrapping Deck the Halls on DVD for this holiday season.
On Nov. 6 (prebook Sept. 12), 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release comedy Deck the Halls, starring Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick as neighbors competing to have the best holiday decorations. The movie grossed $35 million when it bowed in theaters last holiday season. The DVD will be priced at $29.98.
On Oct. 23 (prebook Oct. 1), VCI will deliver the colorized version of the classic 1951 A Christmas Carol (DVD $19.99), starring Alastair Sim as Scrooge from Charles Dickens’ novel.
And two TV movies will arrive on Oct. 16: Gaiam’s The Santa Trap (prebook Sept. 4; DVD $14.98) and Sony’s Christmas Do-Over (prebook Sept. 18; DVD $24.96). In The Santa Trap, Shelley Long stars in a story about a girl who tries to trap Santa to prove his existence. Jay Mohr stars as a modern day Scrooge in Christmas Do-Over.
