Former biologist Randy Olson mixes it up with both evolutionists and creationists (actually, to be more precise, proponents of intelligent design) in this light-hearted look at a serious issue. Although Olson takes a stab at being fair by poking fun at both sides, he seems to prefer tweaking the intelligent designers. The film’s highlight is a rollicking, late-night discussion by Darwinists around a poker table.

Shelf Talk: A generally amiable examination of a difficult subject, Flock of Dodos comes to market with nothing on which to base a promotional effort. Tying it to recent PBS and cable-TV explorations of the topic could bear fruit but will limit the program’s DVD exposure to intellectually upscale and/or culturally savvy viewers.
