Indie label gets DVD, digital rights to Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 11/2/2007 3:17:00 PM

NOV. 2 | Illustrating synergy between newly combined units, Image Entertainment has acquired domestic home entertainment, TV and digital rights to Philip Seymour Hoffman drama Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead from Capitol Films.

ThinkFilm is handling the movie’s theatrical run, which kicked off Oct. 26.

Last month, Image formally became a sister to Capitol and ThinkFilm upon the Image Board of Directors approving its merger with the BTP Acquisition Group. BTP houses Capitol and ThinkFilm.

Image did not specify a DVD street date for Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. The movie stars Hoffman as a real estate accountant who persuades his brother, played by Ethan Hawke, to help him rob their parent’s jewelry store.

“The vision for the [BTP] investor group acquiring Image is building a worldwide all-encompassing entertainment organization,” said Martin Greenwald, Image president and CEO. “That vision begins to be realized with Image’s acquisition of Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. With Capitol Films responsible for international sales, ThinkFilm handling the domestic theatrical release and Image managing domestic home video, broadcast and digital, the group is clearly on track for dynamic growth.”
