> Led Zeppelin’s famed concert film returns in a re-engineered, supplements-laden special edition.

The seminal Led Zeppelin concert film returns in a remastered version (or a “revisited” version, as guitarist Jimmy Page refers to the newly assembled audio track) with a healthy complement of extras, which include archival interviews, TV appearances and a 1976 Cameron Crowe radio show about the band. Of course, fans will be most excited about the inclusion of a handful of songs that were not seen in the original release, including “Over the Hills and Far Away” and “Misty Mountain Hop.” But the additional music has not been incorporated into the film—it can be found along with the other supplements on the bonus DVD. Disc one’s original theatrical cut of the film remains intact, just as it was seen on midnight movie screens all those years ago.

Shelf Talk: Led Zeppelin has been in the news a lot this fall, as the band prepares for a December reunion show in London to honor the memory of late Atlantic Records honcho Ahmet Ertegun. This week also marks the release of the legendary band’s Mothership, a 24-track, two-CD comprehensive collection that spans Led Zeppelin’s 12-year career. The album also is the first Zeppelin material to be made available for digital download. It’s safe to assume that be it as a download or a CD, Mothership will be making some noise this holiday season, as will The Song Remains the Same, which carries the very appealing price tag of $20.97. A collector’s edition of the film, which includes a T-shirt and other collectibles, also is available for $44.98.

Concert, color, PG (some violence), 137 min., DVD $20.97, HD and BD $28.99
Extras: additional performances, archival interviews and TV spots, 1976 Cameron Crowe radio show
Directors: Peter Clifton, Joe Massot
First Run: L, Oct. 1976, NA
