> Sequel to Disney’s best-selling franchise is primed to dance up a storm this holiday season.
Troy (Zac Efron), Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and the rest of the East High School Wildcats are back, this time letting loose their singing and dancing chops at a country club and its annual talent show during summer recess. A less-inspired, slightly over-produced but undeniably colorful and enthusiastic follow-up to the wildly popular 2006 Disney Channel original film, High School Musical 2 is available as an extended edition that includes an additional musical scene—the Polynesian-themed “Humuhumunukunukua’pua’a”—which is integrated into the film. The song (no, I’m not spelling it again!) also is available as one of the package’s many extras, which are highlighted by a rehearsal cam feature that allows users to see all the work that went into the film’s choreography and staging and then compare it to the final, polished version. “You’re going to be able to ping pong from the rehearsal to the actual finished dance number in the movie,” exclaims endlessly enthusiastic director Kenny Ortega during the feature’s intro. “How awesome is that!?”
Shelf Talk: HS2 was the most watched basic cable original movie of all time, and it was the first TV movie soundtrack to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. You’ve heard all the stats and those of its record-breaking older sibling, so get ready for what will no doubt be a High School holiday season.
