> Solidly cast buddy film seems to have morphed from a ’70s TV movie.
When Gus Fitzgerald’s (Peter Falk) daughter Candice (Cindy Taylor) announces she’s marrying a Russian immigrant in Las Vegas, Gus decides to stop the wedding. With help from his golfing pals (George Segal, Bill Cobbs and Rip Torn) and Candice’s ex-boyfriend (Billy Burke), the group takes a chartered bus from their Florida home to Glitter Gulch to stop the proceedings. This wacky comedy seems to have come from a different era, as the veteran cast ogles the parade of bikini-clad women, encounter two flamboyantly gay characters (played by comics Taylor Negron and Mario Cantone) and flit around embarrassingly. The style employed by stuntman-turned-director Charles Picerni can be best described as a movie of the week. To make things contemporary, there’s a subplot about rap music featuring Coolio.
Shelf Talk: With The Bucket List drawing a surprisingly big audience in theaters, Three Days to Vegas could garner some brisk returns with the 55-and-older crowd. The film also boasts a solid cast, led by Falk, whose last effort, The Thing About My Folks, saw solid DVD returns. And comics Cantone and Negron have a cult following among younger audiences (and so does Torn, for that matter). Note that this is not a heist picture, despite the misleading Oceans 11-styled box art.
