By Cindy Spielvogel -- Video Business, 4/21/2008

APRIL 21 | INDIE FILM GUIDE: Now that Blu-ray Disc has won the battle, smaller suppliers are beginning to announce releases in the format. And documentary producers are among the first to step in.

Plexifilm will release the Blu-ray version of Helvetica, a documentary that explores how type affects our lives through advertising, psychology, design and communication. The film will be available on BD through distributor ADA on May 6 (prebook now; BD $34.99).

Also getting into Blu-ray is H2V Media, which has announced an agreement for its titles to be distributed on the BD format by Astrology.com, a subsidiary of NBC Universal.

H2V’s documentary series Astro 12: The Collection & Other Esoteric Traditions makes a connection between astrology and personal growth through spirituality. It looks at the relationship zodiac signs have to Kabbalah, yoga, mythology, chakras, alchemy, tarot cards and other areas.

The series “not only has a global outreach but also a positive perspective, where ancient traditions from around the world have a venue to co-exist and be heard,” says Henrique Vera-Villanueva, CEO and founding partner of H2V.

The series will be released this fall on both Blu-ray and standard DVD.
