> Everyday hero from the U.K. provides lessons and fun for the little ones.
In the vein of everyday heroes who make small miracles a reality comes Fireman Sam. Based on the U.K. children’s TV series of the same name, this feisty firefighter shows viewers that being safe can be fun, no matter how miniscule the task. Whether it’s conducting a neighborhood watch or helping track down a class pet, Fireman Sam approaches each job with zest and vigor—the perfect model for little ones unsure of their place in a grownup world. Catchy, Superman-like theme music is piped in during each of the five stop-animation episodes, as Sam jumps aboard his hook and ladder and sets out to save the day. But rather than focusing too heavily on all the fame and glory, supporting characters such as local shopkeepers and residents of the Welsh village help balance out the story lines, with each character adding a touch of color to the community. Viewers will surely stand up and cheer for this firefighter and his crew, as they are swept up in this highly spirited release.
Shelf Talk: Fans of the PBS Kids Sprout TV series will be able to get their fix with five episodes: “Neighborhood Watch,” “Bathtime for Dusty,” “Fun Run,” “Trouble & Squeak” and “Beast of Pontypandy.” A soon-to-be-launched Web site, FiremanSamOnline.com, also will pay tribute to this fresh-faced firefighter.
