The Godfather returns restored

The Godfather is back, this time in a new set of all three films restored under the direction of Francis Ford Coppola, along with cinematographer Gordon Willis. The films also are coming to Blu-ray for the first time. Both the DVD and Blu-ray sets contain all three films plus new bonus features. —Cindy Spielvogel

The Godfather: The Coppola Restoration Collection More than three decades after the films won the Academy Award for Best Picture, director Francis Ford Coppola’s classic The Godfather and The Godfather Part II have been restored by Paramount, overseen by Coppola, along with a remastered version of The Godfather Part III. Warner keeps up collections

Warner Home Video, which has never been a slouch at collector’s editions, announced recently that it will double the amount of boxed sets it releases. Included in the new total is the ’60s spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which is making its debut at retail after being available through a direct-response campaign from Time Life. Also coming from Warner are some gangster classics and a classic chain-gang film. —C.S.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: The Complete Collection The entire series will be available in a special attaché case gift set. Street Oct. 21, prebook Sept. 16; 41-disc set $199.92

Classic Speed Racer drives home

Lionsgate will release the classic animated Speed Racer TV series in a collectible car tin. The complete series, all 52 episodes, will be included. Also coming from the company is a classic of another kind, the Steve McQueen crime thriller Never Love a Stranger. —C.S.
