OCT. 20 | PHYSICAL: New Video has become the U.S. DVD distributor for Arthouse Films.
The first title, Herb and Dorothy, which is now in theaters, will be released on DVD Dec. 15.
Herb & Dorothy is a documentary on the Vogels, a postal worker and librarian whose art purchases in the ’60s turned into one of the most important collections in the world.
Coming in 2010 will be Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight, Rem Koolhaas: A Kind of Architect and Visual Acoustics.
New Video also will repackage at least 10 Arthouse Films catalog titles.
Arthouse Films acquires, produces and theatrically distributes at least 20 titles per year.
Arthouse executives David Koh, Lilly Bright and Stanley Buchtal said they signed with New Video for DVD distribution because of the company’s history in independent films and documentaries and understanding of reaching niche audiences.
Besides getting the films into major retail outlets, New Video plans to target gift stores, book shops and art-friendly retail shops.
New Video’s proprietary brands include Docurama Films and NewVideo NYC.
