The Nanny Diaries DVD
October 18, 2007
The Weinstein Co. has slated The Nanny Diaries for Dec. 4 (prebook Oct. 23), offering it as a female-skewed alternative to the male-heavy Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Superbad, also bowing that day. (See the full list on our super-cool Q4 release page.)
Starring Scarlett Johansson as a college grad looking after a spoiled brat, Nanny Diaries grossed $25.7 million in theaters. A far cry from some of her other films. And the movie also boasts Laura Linney and Alicia Keys, who have followings themselves.
Unfortunately, the movie got some horrible reviews, scoring a measely 34% on Rotten Tomatoes Critics Tomatometer. As usual, users were more kind, but they still only gave it 56%. Still, those names carry weight on DVD.
Priced at $29.95, the disc will include a blooper reel, a making-of featurette and an interview with the authors of the book on which the movie is based.
Also based on a book, Things That Hang From Trees arrives from Vivendi Visual on Nov. 13 (order now; DVD $24.99). The movie stars Deborah Kara Unger as a single mother and lingerie model struggling to keep her life afloat in a bible belt 1960s southern town. The disc includes deleted scenes. Could be interesting...
