iPhone Rejects Bit Torrent App
May 11, 2009
The iPhone apps keep multiplying, but Apple has just nixed one on the ground of possible copyright infringement. Apple has rejected the 'Drivetrain' application, which enables people to manage their BitTorrent computer activity remotely from their iPhones. Drivetrain,
as explained here at iLounge, doesn't exactly download any content from the peer-to-peer file-sharing site directly onto the iPhone. But it seems that Apple doesn't want iPhone to be aligned with a site like BitTorrent that has been the subject of controversial file-sharing.
According to iPhone's rejection letter to Drivetrain developer Maza Digital, "this category of applications is often used for the infringing on third party rights. We have chosen to not publish this type of application to the App Store."
Interestingly, it appears there is an accepted iPhone app that does much the same thing as Drivetrain - called trackr. This app lets you remotely prepare torrent files for downloading to computers through BitTorrent desktop programs Transmission or uTorrent.
Trackr sells for $2.99
