Coming to a Theater Near You - Blu-ray
November 28, 2006

Landmark Theaters on Thursday will show a Blu-ray version of Magnolia Home Entertainment's The Architect, the latest film from the indie to get a near-simultaneous theatrical, DVD and TV release. (The movie debuts on HDTV and in theaters Friday and on DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD Tuesday.)

Landmark Theaters in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, San Diego and Minneapolis will screen the Blu-ray version of the film to invited Landmark Film Club members using Samsung Blu-ray players and digital projectors, which they claim to be the first big-screen debut for Blu-ray.

This is a great idea to promote the 'powerful' Blu Ray player. Although there's still no getting around the high price point and unstable hardware issues. I think everyone is still wondering why we need two competing HD disc formats.
