Networks shunning GooTube
February 21, 2007
Lots of YouTube news the last two days, which is saying a lot considering they're in the news everyday anyway. And much of the news isn't good, at least when it comes to the viral site landing studio content.
CBS, which has/had? a branded channel on the site, stopped talks to license its content on the site. Talks apparently broke down over how many years the deal should run for.
Meanwhile, NBC, which signed a promotional deal with YouTube last year, sent GooTube a letter last week warning the site to take down unauthorized material.
And Yesterday Viacom, which last month told YouTube to take down 100,000 of its copyrighted videos, agreed to deliver its TV content to upstart vid site which was founded by the same guys that started Kazaa(?!), and is preparing to launch as an Internet TV channel in the next few months.
Even with those setbacks, YouTube's audience is growing and the site is still the No. 1 viral video site with 3.8 million users in January.
