Jasmine Jessica Anthony Checks Into 1408
October 8, 2007
Ten-year-old Jasmine Jessica Anthony (she turns 11 on Oct. 28) has been acting in feature films and television since her big screen debut in Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can in 1992. Her small part found
her billed as “Little Girl,” a far cry from the name roles she been picking up ever since. One of her latest roles is that of Katie, the deceased but spectral daughter of John Cusack in
the haunted hotel room thriller 1408, which was issued on DVD last week by The Weinstein Company.
In a brief interview I had with Jasmine a couple of weeks back (she took a break from class and spoke to me on the phone from the principal’s office), she told me that she’s a fan of scary movies and while she thinks 1408 is scary, “it wasn’t that scary when I was making it.”
“Yeah, I like scary movies,” she said. “I liked Skeleton Key and The Ring. I especially like The Ring because Naomi Watts is in it and she’s my role model.”
Her favorite scene in 1408 movie finds her eerily asking her father, ‘Daddy, don’t you love me any more.’ But it was more than just the wordplay that Jasmine enjoyed.
“In that scene, they put fake blood all over my feet,” Jasmine remembered. “It was really cold at first, but then it got all warm and all gooey and squishy and stuff. Really gooey.”
