The Late David Carradine Gets A Break...

July 16, 2009

...Or does he?

David Carradine’s death in a Thai hotel room from asphyxiation last month may still be a mystery, but there’s nothing tough to figure out about one of his last feature film appearances in the thriller Break. Written and directed by Marc Clebanoff, the straight-to-DVD title was released a couple of days ago by Cinema Epoch. According to the IMDB, there are no less than a half-dozen flicks in post-production featuring Carradine. That’s good to know, because Break really shouldn’t be his swansong, even though he only appears in one scene. You tell me:

In Break, David Carradine portrays a shady character known as “The Bishop” who, as far I can tell, is a go-to

dude if one is interested in procuring drugs, sex, guns, Cadillacs, furs or beachfront realty. Carradine’s appearance comes about a half-hour into the film, when visiting hoodlum Frank Krueger drops by his crib to obtain a specific type of pistol. Decked out in a satin leopard-patterned robe and a ton of glittery jewelry (primarily rings), Carradine intones a slithery “Welcome” to Krueger—right before kissing him full on the mouth! Oh, and it’s worth describing Carradine’s on-screen posse, too. Let’s see….he’s surrounded by a gaggle of gorgeous babes, a couple of boy-toys, a stripper or two and a midget on a leash who answers to the name of Rupert! (Of his human pet, Carradine grins, “He’s better than the real thing—and he never shits on the carpet.”)

Anyway, “The Bishop” can supply the gun that Krueger is looking for—but only if he’ll agree to have sex with one of the gorgeous hangers-on while Carradine and company watch! Krueger is not into it but he needs the gun badly, so he agrees and everyone watches as the two get horizontal. As far as the forced, voyeuristic sex goes, it could be worse: The woman Krueger hooks up with is played by sexy adult starlet Jamie Lynn.

But as for this one-scene role for Carradine, one of his last, hmmmm, I’m not sure how much worse it could be!

Carradine did lots of weid stuff, especially now that you think about them in retrospect. I recommend "Sonny Boy," too. He plays his part of a demented woman who raises her found child in distrubing fashion entirely in drag.
