Wal-Mart Deal or No Deal?
October 22, 2008

Wal-Mart is advertising a curious Playstation 3 bundle
You get the console, a choice of one Blu-ray film from primarily a catalog selection, a choice of one similarly older PS3 game, a remote control, and a $75 Wal-Mart gift card all for $468. To me, it's tough to see the big 'value' as Wal-Mart advertises.
Individually, the PS3 is $399, the included selection of Blu-ray and PS3 titles seem to be selling at retail for about $20-25. At that point, the bundle roughly is worth $439...and I'd suspect the remainder equals the cost of the remote to get you to the $468 mark.  True, you do get a $75 gift card back - but it's not really cash you're putting back into your pockets. You're limited to buying stuff at Wal-Mart, which is fine, but it's not true 'value' savings.
Maybe I'm being too picky about this, and should just be glad Wal-Mart is doing something creative with its PS3 offer. But you'd think as we're getting down to the holiday season wire, the chain would be throwing something out that's a bit more impressive.
Remember those $99 HD DVD players Wal-Mart sold in November of last year? You know the chain has it in them to go bigger and better with high-definition products.
