The acclaimed Righteous Kill, pairing the great actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Jan. 6 (prebook Dec. 4), priced at $29.98 and $39.98, respectively. The movie, which grossed $39.6 million in theaters, stars De Niro and Pacino as detectives ready for retirement who take on one last case, the murder of a notorious pimp, which appears to have connections with a case the detectives solved years earlier and makes them wonder if they put the wrong man in jail. Criterion's initial Blu-ray titles--Bottle Rocket, Chungking Express, The Third Man, The Man Who Fell to Earth and The Last Emperor--have been delayed again, this time to December. The five were supposed to be released Nov. 18 but have now been scheduled for Dec. 16 (prebook Nov. 25), except The Last Emperor, which will bow Jan. 6 (prebook Nov. 11). Not many big announcements coming out now, so here are some TV movies that will be released on DVD soon. The acclaimed TNT mini-series George Wallace, about the three-time Alabama governor and four-time Presidential candidate, will finally make its DVD debut on Jan. 20 (prebook Dec. 16), likey cashing into the political feeling around that time, when President Elect Barack Obama will be sworn into office. George Wallace was the 1997 Golden Globe for Best Mini-Series and Best Supporting Actress in a Mini-Series for Angelina Jolie. Jolie played the second wife of Wallace, who was played by Gary Sinise. The acclaimed Traitor, which grossed a slim $23 million in theaters, will open on the home market Dec. 19 (prebook Nov. 16). The thriller, starring Don Cheadle as a former U.S. Special Operations officer suspected of a series of terrorist attacks, will be priced at $29.98 on DVD and $39.98 on Blu-ray. Anchor Bay, whose discs are distributed by sister company Starz, has put on the DVD commentary by Cheadle and writer/director Jeffrey Nachmanoff and two featurettes: "Action! Bad news on a Friday afternoon! MGM has postponed the release of Spinal Tap on Blu-ray. It was scheduled for Jan. 20, but a new date hasn't been finalized yet. Shout! Factory will deliver Major League Baseball Productions' 2008 World Series Film: Phillies vs. Ray on DVD on Nov. 25 and on Blu-ray Dec. 16 (both prebook Nov. 14). Dec. 23 is being stacked up with plenty of smaller box-office earners and Universal is adding one more. (Click for our list of quarterly new releases.) Jason Statham's latest actioner, Death Race, will cross the DVD and Blu-ray finishing line Dec. 23. In the $36 million-grossing movie, Statham has been sent to a dangerous prison for a murder he didn't commit and is forced to compete in the Death Race. Fox will bow Kiefer Sutherland-starring Mirrors on DVD and Blu-ray Jan. 13 (prebook Dec. 17), which should be right around the time that Sutherland's 24 gets back into regular airings on TV. UPDATE: Yep! Variety reports that the new season of 24 will debut Jan. 11. The $30.6 million-grossing Mirrors about a former cop turned night watchman who sees horrific visions in mirrors in a department store that was burned will be priced at $29.98 on DVD and $39.99 on Blu-ray. Sports is among the most popular high-definition broadcast programming, but no major sports programming has been released on Blu-ray Disc—until now. Warner Home Video will bow NBA Champions 2007-2008: Boston Celtics on Blu-ray Nov. 4 (order now), priced at $34.99. The 60-minute program follows the Celtics through the team’s regular season, dramatic playoff run and ultimate victory against the L.A. Lakers in the finals. Special features are the same as the standard DVD released in July.

Universal has slotted Burn After Reading into the holiday schedule on Dec. 23 (prebook Nov. 18). It will be priced at $29.98 on DVD and $39.98 on Blu-ray. The $57 million-grossing comedy stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton and was directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, the killer team behind the brilliant Fargo and last year's Best Picture winner, No Country For Old Men. In Burn After Reading, two unscrupulous gym employees find a disc containing the memoir of a CIA agent and try to sell it.
