SEPT. 4 | MPI Media Group has finalized its first project slate from its new international indie label Doküment Films.
Highlighted by This Filthy World, featuring John Waters’ one-man show as directed by Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Jeff Garlin, these films will be geared for theatrical, DVD and/or digital distribution.
Doküment’s initial slate will roll out this fall. Exact distribution methods, street dates and pricing have not yet been specified.
Other films in the rollout are Volker Schlondorff-directed Strike, based on the true story of the woman who triggered the 1980 Gdansk shipyard strike; James Elroy’s Feast of Death, a documentary about the famed crime novelist and his obsessions with unsolved murders; Most High, exploring a professional’s descent into crystal methamphetamine addiction; Puppy, an Australian thriller starring Nadia Townsend and Bernard Curry; and Eight Miles High, about notorious Rolling Stones groupie Natalia Avelon.
“Around the world, great filmmakers are still making unique and thought-provoking films,” said Greg Newman, VP of acquisitions and development for MPI/Doküment. “The mission of Doküment is to ensure that these films find their audience in America. And while we are sincerely dedicated to the independent theatrical market, Doküment is equally committed to the new opportunities created by digital technology. Doküment’s goal is to discover and deliver the next generation of independent cinema for a new breed of moviegoers.”
