Think Tank is a resolutely goofy comedy that flaunts its characters’ childish behavior and scores as a gross-out-free nerd comedy featuring twentysomethings instead of teenagers or children. The plot concerns a quartet of young men who have a “boys only” inventors club that jumps into action when their favorite hangout spot, a local pool hall, is in danger of closing because a larger, corporate-owned billiards business is moving into the area. The cast members deliver uniformly likeable characterizations, but this kind of über-nerd celebration was carried off more successfully in the recent DVD premiere Bickford Shmeckler’s Cool Ideas.

Shelf Talk: The package prominently touts the fact that Think Tank is “from the producers of Napoleon Dynamite” (writer/director Brian Petersen was in the cast of Napoleon), and the rabid fans of that movie will be the most receptive audience for this one. The family-friendly nature of Think Tank’s silly but tame comedy also is a strong selling point.
