> Get your kicks with a ’60s TV series that exudes Rat Pack-era cool.
It has been a while since this easygoing 1960-64 dramatic series has been seen on the classic TV networks, and it’s ripe for rediscovery on DVD. Like Naked City, Route 66 is essentially an anthology series in the guise of a continuing adventure program, with two drifters, rich Tod (Martin Milner) and streetwise Buz (George Maharis), traveling around the U.S. in their cool Corvette and helping out different people in every episode. This first collection features 15 episodes and a host of guest stars, including Walter Matthau, Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen.
Shelf Talk: Classic TV series won’t break the bank in terms of sales or rentals, but their audiences are devoted and display a steady interest in the titles. The central attraction in this set are the guest stars, great shots of various U.S. cities and a super-cool theme song by the always great Nelson Riddle that has infinite appeal to the Ultra Lounge set.
