> Venerable franchise gets a boost from this well-made animated adventure.
This animated action/adventure film, based on a Cold War-era comic book and a subsequent videogame, reflects diverse influences (a wide variety of graphic novels and motion pictures) but maintains fidelity to the original material. Turok is a prehistoric warrior who seeks revenge for the slaughter of his tribe and journeys to the fabled Lost Land, where he does battle with man-eating dinosaurs and savage cave dwellers. The film is well done, but it has a familiar ring.
Shelf Talk: In conjunction with Turok rights holder Classic Media, Genius Products is releasing this DVD as part of a multi-media reinvigoration of the franchise. Cross-promotional opportunities abound, inasmuch as comic books and videogames also are involved, but the core market will still consist of adolescent boys.
