Set in Washington D.C., The Walker follows Carter Page (Harrelson), a popular socialite who serves as confidant, companion and card partner to the wives of the most powerful men in America. When Carter's dearest friend (Scott Thomas) finds herself on the brink of a scandal, he covers for her. Suddenly he finds himself the chief suspect in a criminal investigation and this well-connected man-about-town becomes an outcast, hounded by the police and forced to hunt down the true culprit in order to clear his name.

> A modern-day revamp of classic Hollywood melodramas, focusing on a Washington D.C. murder scandal.
Writer/director Paul Schrader updates his 1980 hit American Gigolo here, adding a strong dose of Tennessee Williams as he mimics the melodramas of the ’40s and ’50s. Woody Harrelson stars as gay Southerner Carter Page III, who serves as the paid escort of the bored wives of politicians in Washington, played by Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily Tomlin and Lauren Bacall. The story kicks in when Harrelson covers up an affair for Thomas and subsequently becomes the prime suspect in a murder case. Schrader has always demonstrated a sharp ability in sketching social milieus in his writing, and this aspect, along with some top-notch acting, makes The Walker worthy of a push to those interested in indie titles with respectable credentials.
Shelf Talk: The name cast is the film’s main attraction, although Schrader has a following among film buffs and fans of Martin Scorsese (for whom Schrader has written Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, among others). ThinkFilm has a full publicity campaign planned for this release, but The Walker seems destined to become an impulse choice for consumers and will succeed chiefly on good word-of-mouth.
