> Inventive junkie saga that picks up as it moves along.
An ambitious indie that starts slow and gains momentum, Most High is a drug addict’s odyssey in the vein of Requiem for a Dream. Writer/director Marty Sader stars as a mental health worker who gets hooked on crystal meth while having an affair with his sexy stepsister (co-scripter Laura Keys). Sader’s appearance changes radically in the film, as he went through a dramatic, real-life weight reduction to play the scrawnier, junkie version of his character. The film is at its most compelling when Sader’s drug fantasies are colorfully realized.
Shelf Talk: The film’s pedigree includes various prizes at smaller film festivals, but its strongest appeal will be to those drawn to inventive depictions of the junkie experience, including Requiem, Trainspotting and Jesus’ Son.
