FAITH & FAMILY: Fitness DVDs convert to Christianity
By Cindy Spielvogel -- Video Business, 2/25/2008
FEB. 25 | FAITH & FAMILY: Though movie producers have been getting religion by producing faith-based films, there’s another DVD genre that has converted to Christianity: fitness.
Donna Richardson-Joyner hosts the Christian fitness title.
The genre has attracted celebrities such as Janine Turner of Northern Exposure fame, who hosts Christoga (Westlake Entertainment), a workout that offers yoga meditation set to Biblical scripture. Turner says she made the video after attending Christian yoga classes.
Donna Richardson-Joyner, a longtime workout video star, offers Sweating in the Spirit and Sweating in the Spirit 2 (Razor & Tie). Besides creating these DVDs, Richardson-Joyner helped her mother start a fitness and health ministry for churches.
Other Christian fitness titles include Leslie Sansone’s Walking the Walk: Getting Fit With Faith, which encourages viewers to “worship while you walk.” Also available is PraiseMoves, a “Christian alternative to yoga” from instructor Laurette Willis.
Also available now are dance instructionals from Worship Steps, including hip-hop titles Shackles, Sovereign and Glorious, along with lyrical (contemporary) dance videos Please Walk Beside Me, I Need Thee and Treasure of Jesus (Victory Multimedia).Talkback
