Little League powers promotion for baseball title
April 20, 2008

I have to admit, I usually don't ready my emails from Little League.

My son is not having the best season, and we get enough emails from the team coach, the team mom, other team parents and our local league organizers about games, pictures, pancake fundraisers and the like. I don't feel any guilt about skipping over the marketing emails from Little League "corporate," if you will.

But I got one last night on which the subject line was "Baseball Film The Final Season Available Now." For a minute I thought Verizon had sliced, diced and mixed up my messages so that I was getting an Amazon message from Little League.

In fact, Little League is selling the Sony-distributed film in its online store, in what is another great example of non-traditional outlets stepping up with DVDs. Motorcyle movies at Harley-Davidson stores, dance movies at Capezio, and now, this baseball tale marketd by Little League to families with young baseball players.

The League gave a great pitch for the family drama, which was inspired by a real high school team in Norway, Iowa, and is directed by David Mickey Evans (The Sandlot). Even if it doesn't sell many, the emails are great promotion. (The price is $24.95 at the Little League store, but only $19.95 at Amazon.)
