Anchor Bay has Blu-ray firsts
August 22, 2008
On Oct. 28 (prebook Sept. 25), Anchor Bay will release its first Blu-ray title with BD Live, digital copy and high-res sound.
Dead Space: Downfall is the movie prequel to Electronics Arts' Dead Space videogame, which is being released Oct. 20. According to the press materials, the animated movie's story bridges the gap between the Image Comics series and the videogame, which will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Here's the synopsis: "An ancient religious artifact has been recovered by a deep-space mining ship, and for the crew of the USG Ishimura, life just became a living hell. Unearthed on a far-away planet during a mining operation, the relic is worshiped by some, even seen as proof of God. But when it’s removed from its resting place and brought on the ship, the artifact unleashes a long-dormant alien race, one bent on ripping apart -- and taking over -- every human aboard. Their screams CAN be heard in space … but only the slashers are listening."
O K!
To add to that, here's what producer Joe Goyette said about making Downfall: “For us, it was creating another 400 ways to kill people … Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it turns another corner.”
Sounds scary. (Click here for the trailer.)
Downfall also will be released on standard DVD, but only the Blu-ray version will offer the digital copy, and it will be playable on PC and PlayStation Portable.
The BD Live offerings include the CD soundtrack downloadable in MP3 format, animatics and other extras.
Both the DVD and Blu-ray will contain a deleted scene and hidden cheat codes for the videogame.
The DVD will be priced at $26.97, with Blu-ray at $34.98.
Incidentally, Downfall was animated by Film Roman, which is a Starz Media company, just like Anchor Bay. This is the first of several planned projects Film Roman will animate based on EA franchises, so we could see more of these types of releases coming from Anchor Bay.
