Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

The Madagascar sequel, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa will move it move it to DVD and Blu-ray on Friday, Feb. 6, another non-traditional-Tuesday date for Paramount. Prebook is Friday, Jan. 9.

DreamWorks Animation's $170 million-grossing animated movie will likely be the biggest title for the new year, after the rash of summer blockbusters that hit shelves in the fourth quarter.

Paramount also will continue the double-pack it started with Kung Fu Panda, releasing Escape 2 Africa in a Move It! Move It! Double DVD Pack with a second disc that includes two new animated adventures from the new Nickelodeon series The Penguins of Madagascar (I smell cross-promotion!). The Move It pack will retail for less than $25, according to Paramount.

The Penguins episodes also will be on the Blu-ray release, but Paramount hasn't released a price for that version. Got some info: single DVD will be priced below $20 and Blu-ray will be less than $30. No firm prices, but there you go.

With the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Sacha Baron Cohen, and more, Escape 2 Africa's DVD/Blu-ray release will be supported by promotional partnerships with Carl's Jr./Hardees, Hostess, Sargento Cheese and Check E. Cheese's. And Paramount says the marketing is planned to continue throughout the spring.
