The Informers and others

June 16, 2009

Here are some details on some upcoming limited-theatrical or TV movies:

The Informers will be released on DVD ($24.96) and Blu-ray ($34.95) on Aug. 25 (prebook July 23) by Sony.

The movie had a brief and limited theatrical run, but it has lots of star names to give it attention: Kim Basinger, Mickey Rourke, Billy Bob Thornton and Winona Ryder. The movie is based on stories by Bret Easton Ellis, and the prolific author co-wrote the screenplay.

So, what's it about? Here's the synopsis from Sony: "An interweaving tale in the tradition of Boogie Nights, which unfolds in Los Angeles: a city ruled by addictions of every type – from sex, to drugs, to power – where youth is wasted, where love is fleeting, where every night is a headlong rush to the next orgy of sensation. Sooner or later, the party has to end ...and the hangover is bound to be a killer."

Both the DVD and Blu-ray will include director and cast commentary and a making-of featurette. And the Blu-ray disc will be BD Live accessible.

Also, TV movie Coco Chanel, starring Shirley MacLaine as the titular fashion designer, will arrive on DVD ($24.98) on July 7 (order now) from Screen Media, through distributor Universal. The movie, which aired on Lifetime, was nominated for a Golden Globe for MacLaine's performance.

And crime drama Guns, starring Elisha Cuthbert, will be released on DVD on June 23 (order now) from Phase 4. The movie follows four families caught up illegal gun trafficking. The title will be priced at $29.99.
