Netflix to Showcase Instant On Feature

The company that staked its claim on mailing DVDs to monthly subscribers now wants to showcase it burgeoning ability to stream movies directly onto users' Windows-based personal computers.
On Friday and Saturday, Netflix will screen several classic and well known hits on its website to the general public, hosted by comedian Dana Carvey.
"Down in Front with Dana Carvey" will include film clips and Carvey's comedic take on a variety of well known hits.
The free screening can be seen at
www.netflix.com/netflixnowplaying. It begins at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time on
Friday through midnight Pacific Time on Saturday.
The full list of films used in the production includes Warner Brothers'
Gorillas in the Mist,
North by Northwest,
Singin' in the Rain,
Soylent Green,
The Exorcist, and
Rio Bravo; Sony Pictures'
Five Easy Pieces and
The Way We Were; NBC Universal's
Harvey; Paramount Pictures'
Jackass; and 20th Century Fox's
True Lies.
The full screening or any of its individual pieces will be available for viewing through real-time playback technology that allows the video to be watched at virtually the same time it is being delivered to a user's Windows-based computer.
It is not available for Macintosh users.
Recently, the company announced its Instant On feature had reached 10 million views during the first six months of the year.
